Late Fall Engagement At Memorial Union
Engagement & Family Photos At Memorial Union
In the crisp November air of Madison, Wisconsin, we met at the Memorial Union on the University of Wisconsin Campus. The same venue where Nick and Allison will be getting married this year. Let’s look back at a very, very, very windy mid november evening at the Memorial Union Terrace.
You can tell Nick really loves and trusts Allison, a UW-Madison alumni, because he agreed to have their venue at the Memorial Union without ever actually seeing it in person. This photo session with some of Allison’s family was the first time Nick has ever been to the Memorial Union Terrace.
Unfortunately Wisconsin was in full swing, it was incredibly November-y. Very chilly, there were no pictures of liquid gold or Babcock ice cream to be seen. At least outside there was still a line at the Daily Scoop as there seems to always be.
Students were on break, and the famous Terrace chairs were put away for the season. So as beautiful as it was that day. I tried to reassure Nick it would get much better for their summer wedding in Madison. With its beautiful architecture the campus icon is a dream wedding venue. And on this day, an excellent place for some engagement photos.
A Chilly November Day
As the golden hues of November enveloped Memorial Union, Nick & Allison's engagement session we got to explore around the almost entirely empty space. We were pretty much the only people crazy enough to be there and brave the wind. And we were rewarded with some stunning evening light, and with no competition we had free reign.
While the wind was definitely chilly, these two and their family brought warmth. I tried a lot of different ways to make that sentence work and that is as good as it gets.
I loved Allison and Nick’s chemistry together. But my favorite part of this session was the portraits of Allison’s parents. They are absolutely beautiful, adorable, and my god did her mom have some roasts on deck. The sass was incredible.
Memorial Union Never Disappoints
Along the shore of Lake Mendota, Memorial Union is a beloved campus landmark in Madison, Wisconsin, renowned for its scenic beauty and historic charm. Basically it's got the vibes.
With the iconic Terrace overlooking the lake and phenomenal architecture, it serves as the perfect backdrop for engagement sessions, weddings, and all other special occasions. It is definitely busy here during any time when it is warm. But, on this day we had no competition, because it wa quite chilly
I love places like this that have so many different “biomes”. You have the lakeshore and the docks with the water, the greenery of the lakeshore path (well at least then it is green, fall is a stunner here too) and the other side of the Memorial Union itself has one of my favorite portrait spots in the city. The main entrance with the arches and columns.
In the summer the sun sets over Lake Mendota, but this time of the year it actually sets on the other side of Memorial Union. The Langdon Street side with Science Hall and the Wisconsin Historical Society Building.
We got a beautiful sunset with golden rays coming into the stonework and arches that made for some crazy photos.
Party Time At Seven Acre Dairy Co.
Seven Acre Dairy Company is renowned for its outdoor spaces, which provide couples with a stunning backdrop for their wedding festivities. With seven acres (get it?) of restored oak savanna, the sugar river, manicured gardens, and private lawns, there's no shortage of picturesque settings to choose from. This is a perfect place for a stunning outdoor wedding.
My absolute favorite part of every wedding day is stealing ten minutes with the couple at sunset for some quick photos. These are always the best photos from the day!
As the evening really got started, Carly and Jacob returned to the tent, under the string lights. Then things became a little more familiar. We got speeches, which were SO GOOD, and first dances. For which Carly had one last surprise, changing into her grandmother's dress for her first dance with her father.
Final Thoughts:
It was a truly magical evening with Nick & Allison and their windy engagement session at Memorial Union. I am so excited for their wedding venue to be Memorial Union in my favorite place Madison, Wisconsin! I am definitely getting myself some Babcock Ice cream since it should be a little warmer.
If you're dreaming of capturing your own love story in Madison, Wisconsin, I would be honored to be a part of your story.
